Education stakeholders from the public and private spheres globally, gathered for the 9th Intel Education Summit in Stockholm, Sweden.

Run in collaboration with the City of Stockholm and the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm (KTH), this year’s Summit took a holistic approach to ‘Mobile Learning’ by addressing current challenges and visions in order to promote a successful 21st Century learning and teaching experience.

“Mobile technologies are increasingly prominent in our students’ lives and these technologies offer new opportunities for students’ educational activities. Using these mobile devices requires a shift in pedagogy that allows for new learning experiences that are not bound by classroom walls,” says Shelley Shott, Global K-12 Education Manager at Intel Corporation, speaking about the role of technology in education.

Over two days, delegates discussed and explored areas such as the technology and pedagogy, the resources and usage models of Mobile Learning as well as its trends and limitations. Participants heard about case studies and first-hand experiences from implementations of ICT projects as well as views from publishers, teachers and learners.

In addition to speakers from the Swedish public sector, KTH and Intel, delegates heard from leading technology companies including Ericsson, McAfee and Glogster, as well as, academic leaders from The Open University, Russia’s Department of Education and UNESCO. “It is important that such an important and complex field like education is addressed in collaboration with all stakeholders involved’, said Danny Arati, Education Manager Europe for Intel’s Corporate Affairs Group, and main sponsor of the event. “We want to promote an arena where delegates are encouraged to present and debate current challenges and visions, with the goal to promote a successful 21st Century learning and teaching experience.”

We will be sharing insights from the Summit in due course,  so watch this space!
