SANTA CLARA, Calif., April X, 2014– Intel Corporation today introduced the Intel® Education 2 in 1, its first-ever 2 in 1 education reference design. The Intel Education 2 in 1 has the flexibility and mobility of a tablet plus the performance and productivity of a laptop, giving students the best of both worlds in one device. With just a push of a button, the Intel Education 2 in 1 transforms from a laptop students can use to create reports and presentations to a tablet students can use on a field trip or to collect data for a science project.
A learning tool designed with students in mind, the Intel Education 2 in 1 has front-facing and rear-facing cameras to promote content creation and scientific exploration. Its dual-docking mode allows students the option of having the tablet screen face them when using the keyboard or having the tablet screen face their peers to facilitate collaboration.
“As a result of our work with educators around the world, Intel understands the need for engaging, student-centered learning in order to drive student success in school and beyond,” said John Galvin, vice president of the Sales and Marketing Group at Intel and general manager of Intel Education. “With our new Intel Education 2 in 1, students have a tablet when they want it and a laptop when they need it. This gives educators the flexibility to create a more interactive, collaborative learning experience for their students.”
The Intel Education 2 in 1 is powered by a quad-core Intel® Atom™ processor Z3740D, runs Windows* 8.1, and provides up to 7.8 hours of batterylife as a tablet and an optional 3+ hours of additional battery life when docked2 to keep up with student learning all through the day. With its ruggedized, durable design, the Intel Education 2 in 1 can withstand drops of up to 70 cm and is water and dust resistant, which ensures the device can stand up to hands-on learning inside and outside the classroom. The device also includes McAfee Antivirus Plus, which keeps students and their devices safe online so students and teachers don’t lose learning and teaching time due to malware issues.
The Intel Education 2 in 1 features a snap-on magnification lens that works with the applications included in the Intel® Education Software suite, such as the Intel Education Lab Camera, which provides an affordable tool for viewing and measuring microscopic and macroscopic items. It also includes a temperature sensor probe that works with the SPARKvue software to enable experiments that inspire student curiosity. The software suite also includes applications to engage students with tools that encourage inquiry across the curriculum and promote deeper engagement with content such as the Kno™ app, which offers students and teachers access to a global digital content library of more than 225,000 educational titles.
The Intel Education 2 in 1 is part of Intel® Education Solutions, which includes devices, software, content, services and teacher professional development that work together to transform learning and teaching for student success.
