We have extended the entry deadline for this year’s Intel Business Challenge Europe 2012 to May 28th 2012 to give as many young technology entrepreneurs as possible the chance to compete for a share of the $50,000 prize fund, benefit from coaching from international business professionals and the opportunity to compete at the Intel Global Challenge finals in Silicon Valley, USA.

We welcome students, PhD students or graduates, between the ages of 18 and 34 from one of the 37 eligible European countries*, to enter the competition. Projects should incorporate technologies that have real business potential within the areas of biotechnology, nanotechnology, software, mobile applications, electronics, robotics, energy and power generation.

Students and graduates should register at the HiTechPlant platform, and submit project abstracts by 28th May. The jury will then select the best 100 ideas to go through to round two, where entrants are requested to prepare a business plan and an elevator pitch video. The jury will then select 20 projects to take part in the Intel Business Challenge Europe Finals, to be held in a European city this autumn.

Last year’s EU first prize recipients were BUCKY’o’ZUN from Denmark and Photo-Genie from Israel. BUCKY’o’ZUN proposed a new material that blocks 99.99% of UV light when applied to skin or materials prone to fading and then went on to win The Young Innovator Award,  while Photo-Genie makes looking good in photos easy for everyone by producing unique photographs on copyrighted backgrounds that allow adults, pets and children to magically appear in all kinds of places.

The Intel Business Challenge Europe is part of the Intel Global Challenge, organised in collaboration with UC Berkley. The competition has been running since 2005 and builds awareness of business and entrepreneurship among young people around the world.
