SALAMANCA, SPAIN, November 24, 2011 – Intel Corporation and the regional government of Castilla & León, Spain, today convened the eighth annual Intel Education Summit (24 & 25 November 2011, Salamanca, Spain) to consider the power of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) in transforming education to equip learners with 21
Joined by leading international education, policy and private sector representatives including Fernando Sanchez Pascuala, General Director of School Policies, Ministry of Education Castilla y León, the Summit and plenary working groups aim to identify how technology use can derive both economic and educational reform.
In addition to keynotes on topics including the need for systemic change in education and the challenges and opportunities for education in the new economy, plenary sessions will provide practical examples from across Europe on areas like the role of Public Private Partnerships in cultivating the skills needed by private enterprise within education systems. The Summit will also celebrate Intel® Teach, Intel’s professional development program, having trained over 10 million educators globally to effectively integrate technology into their lessons. The teachers trained through Intel Teach have reached more than 300 million students around the world.

Castilla & León was selected by Intel as co-host for the Summit because the region is leading the implementation and usage of ICT in education through its ‘Estrategia Red XXI’ (Network Strategy for the 21st Century) project, which is considered one of the key strategies for education. The Regional Government is using tools such as the Intel® Teach Advanced Online & Collaborative professional development community to develop and support highly skilled and innovative teachers and help them take full advantage of 21st century pedagogic practice and technology. The system helps deliver education transformation through on demand high quality training, resources, support and collaborative tools developed with educators for educators.
