RoboKeeper – The fastest goalie in the world
As a special treat, Intel is offering the opportunity to football fans to enter into a man vs. machine dual with RoboKeeper in the Intel Gaming Hall. This robot goalie works like a classic TIPP-KICK goalkeeper, with the engine control based on a fanless embedded computer from Kontron with an Intel multi-core processor. RoboKeeper was developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML) in Dortmund. The eyes of RoboKeeper are two cameras that can record up to 50 images per second. They focus on the ball and follow its trajectory. Based on the resulting pictures, image processing software calculates the probable impact point of the ball in the goal, to which the robot goalie reacts within just 0.3 seconds.
