The European Chief Technology Officer of the Year Award goes to Intel

Intel Vice President and Director of Intel Labs Europe, Prof. Dr. Martin Curley, awarded for his excellence and leadership in technology and innovation in Europe.


UTRECHT, the Netherlands, October 15, 2015 – The European Industrial Research Management Association* (EIRMA) and the Nordic innovation consulting firm Spinverse* named Intel Vice President and Director of Intel Labs Europe, Prof. Dr. Martin Curley, the European Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the year 2015.

European CTO of the Year is the leading award honoring excellence in technology and innovation leadership in Europe. It is given to the most innovative technology leader of a highly successful European organization.

Martin Curley’s creation of Intel Labs Europe and his commitment to improve Intel’s alignment with the European R&D ecosystem were reasons for his selection. His work to increase the number of Intel researchers from 800 to 4500 in labs and development centers across Europe were another important contribution. Martin Curley has helped create significant growth in output and reputation of Intel Labs Europe. The organization built a technology collaboration community numbering more than 600 European research partners resulting in a strong and vibrant innovation ecosystem.

Martin Curley has contributed strongly to the European Innovation ecosystem and chairs the EU Open Innovation Strategy and Policy group (OISPG). He was a co-founder of the Innovation Value Institute in Maynooth, Ireland, and is a member of several high level advisory boards including the EU Connect Advisory Forum and the Smart London Board. Martin Curley recently co-authored and co-edited two books on IT Management and Entrepreneurship, the IT Capability Maturity Framework body of knowledge guide and the Experimental Nature of New Venture Creation.

Working together with the broader European Innovation ecosystem we are using technology to help create a better Europe, strengthening the economy and improving quality of life,” said Martin Curley at the awards ceremony in Utrecht, the Netherlands. “Congratulations to the other two winners Dr. Marcel Wubbolts and Jonathan O’Halloran and thanks to EIRMA and Spinverse for establishing this award to recognize the importance of technology and innovation in Europe.”
