- Citrix XenClient-based client virtualisation solution specially designed for business clients using Intel® vProTM technology
- SmarTop® - Smarter Desktop: enables a range of modern usage scenarios, such as using multiple images on one client
- Optimum security, user-friendliness, performance and mobility for users
Zurich, 17 November 2011 – Intel and Swisscom IT Services today unveil their Intel® vProTM technology-based intelligent desktop virtualisation solution for business clients at the Intel Channel and Customer Conference in Zurich. The service combines common usage scenarios such as partitioning of personal and business content on the same device and other functions such as enhanced backup and restore options. It also features improved security and setup options optimised for international use. As a result, users can enjoy enhanced security, user-friendliness, excellent performance and a whole new approach to mobility, both in the office and on the move.
SmarTop® is an innovative workplace service featuring intelligent desktop virtualisation (IDV) based on Intel® vProTM technology. Aimed at business clients, the new service provides company IT departments with the necessary security in terms of access to company resources and sensitive data. It combines, for the first time, the advantages of centralised desktop environments with fully mobile application scenarios. IDV is based on the technical principles of centralised management with local execution, smart display of layered images and the use of device-specific security policies. PCs powered by Intel® Core™ vProTM processors are ideally suited to IDV, with their central and remote management, enhanced endpoint security, hardware-assisted virtualisation, out-of-band management and anti-theft technology.
The innovation in the SmarTop® service lies in its seamless expandability. It uses a platform that can be deployed cost-effectively for day-to-day use cases. SmarTop® can be used wherever increased employee mobility requires specific solutions. It boasts enhanced security options for protecting data in mobile applications, and also offers an ideal solution for the continuity scenarios associated with critical roles.
Equally, the trend towards consumerisation demands increasing hardware customisation – in some cases users can even use their own devices. This smart, upgradable ‘technology as a service’ enables business and private use to be combined on the same device, and multiple, separate workplaces to be supported on a single piece of mobile hardware.
SmarTop® is powered by Citrix* XenClient*, a high-performance bare-metal client hypervisor developed and optimised for Intel® vProTM technology. The XenClient exploits all the benefits of Intel® Virtualization Technology and Intel® Trusted Execution Technology. Citrix has incorporated these technologies into XenClient, thereby combining the advantages of local desktop virtualisation with the virtualisation and management functions of Intel® vPro™ technology-based devices.
Patrick Messmer, Business Development Manager at Intel Switzerland: “The Swisscom SmarTop offers centralised application and OS management with local execution – an excellent example of Intel’s intelligent desktop virtualisation. Users work with their usual environment and enjoy unbeatable user-friendliness without having to compromise on security.”
